KHARTOUM, July 31 (Xinhua) -- Ousted Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir has failed to appear before court in the first session of his trial on charges related to corruption, possession of foreign currency and illicit wealth.
"Al-Bashir failed to appear before court for security reasons," Ahmed Ibrahim Al-Tahir, head of al-Bashir's defence, told reporters Wednesday.
Al-Tahir added that al-Bashir's trial has been postponed to coming August 17.
He further noted that one charge is raised against al-Bashir relating to money found at the Guest House, saying that "this money was a grant from one of the countries and was not included in the budget."
Earlier, Sudan's general prosecution directed charges against the ousted president relating to corruption, possession of foreign currency and illicit wealth after more than 113 million U.S. dollars were found at his home.
